Typhoon Mekkhala

Mekkhala is a typhoon in the Philippine Sea of the Western Pacific Ocean, becoming a named storm on June 21, 2026.

On June 22, Mekkhala underwent rapid-intensification, forming a strong central eye with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph (233 km/h), becoming the equivalent of a category 4 hurricane.

Typhoon Mekkhala is forecast to turn northward, where in the next several days the storm will bring impacts to Japan’s Ryukyu Islands.
