Tropical Cyclone Alfred
Alfred was a tropical cyclone in the Coral Sea, located in the South Pacific Ocean.
Alfred formed in the northern Coral Sea on February 22, 2025. Throughout the rest of the month and into the start of March, Alfred slowly made its way southward across the body of water.
On March 4, 2025, Alfred made a sharp turn west towards the east coast of Australia. Over the next couple of days, it moved at a slow pace towards the coasts of southeast Queensland and northeast New South Wales.
Tropical Cyclone Alfred made landfall near the city of Brisbane in the early morning hours of March 8, 2025 local time. The main threats with this tropical cyclone were damaging winds, strong surf, and heavy rains producing flash flooding.
Alfred is in rare company as tropical cyclones don’t normally make it this far south. The last time a tropical cyclone made landfall near Brisbane was Tropical Cyclone Zoe in March 1974.
