Southern Georgia Wildfires

On April 18, 2026, the Pineland Road Fire in Clinch county, Georgia ignited, quickly growing to over 3,200 acres in its first 24 hours. The next day, on April 20, the Highway 82 Fire ignited to the northeast in Brantley county.

The southern portion of Georgia is currently under exceptional drought, allowing fires to spread more quickly. In the first few days, the fires had destroyed 87 homes in Georgia.

By May 5, the Pineland Road Fire was at 32,575 acres and 44% contained, and the Highway 82 Fire was 22,471 acres and 75% contained.
