Jones Road Wildfire
The Jones Road Wildfire started in the morning hours of Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in the New Jersey Pinelands. By the next day, the fire had rapidly spread east towards the coastline, burning over 13,000 acres by Wednesday night and becoming one of the largest in New Jersey in a couple of decades.
Thousands of residents were under evacuation orders as the fire rapidly grew. Smoke from the Jones Road Fire was blown northward towards New York City and surrounding areas, causing hazy skies and air quality alerts for the region.
Fire growth continued to be a concern that weekend of April 26-27, 2025 as strong winds were present in the area, causing issues for first responders battling the flames.
As of May 1, 2025, the Jones Road Fire is 80% contained and has burned 15,300 acres.
