Hurricane Humberto
Hurricane Humberto was the eighth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, forming on September 24, 2025.
On September 26, Humberto underwent rapid intensification, strengthening into a major hurricane. The next day on September 27, Humberto transformed into a powerful, Category 5 storm with winds of 160 mph (257 km/h).
While staying over the open waters of the Atlantic, Hurricane Humberto, along with nearby Hurricane Imelda, brought dangerous surf, rip currents, and coast flooding to the US East Coast and the island of Bermuda.
Humberto’s presence had an influence on the track of Hurricane Imelda. While initial forecasts showed Imelda heading for a landfall in the Southeast US, Humberto steered Imelda into a more easterly track that took it away from the coast and further out over the Atlantic Ocean.
Humberto became post-tropical on October 1, 2025, dissipating that same day. Because of its proximity to Imelda, Humberto’s remnants were absorbed by the other hurricane as it swung out east over the Atlantic.
