Typhoon Haikui

Typhoon Haikui

Typhoon Haikui was a typhoon in the Philippine sea.

Haikui was the first typhoon to hit Taiwan in four years. Haikui slammed Taiwan on Sept. 3, bringing strong winds and torrential rain to the island and injured 44 people.

160,000 homes lost power as a result of falling trees and downed power lines as a result of the 124 mph winds.

Over 114,000 people were evacuated before the storm made landfall. Areas of Taiwan received more than a foot of rainfall in a 24 hour period.

Following landfall, Haikui lost strength and downgraded to a tropical storm on Sept. 4.
