The VIIRS instrument onboard NOAA-21 captured stunning imagery of Typhoon Ampil when the storm was approaching Japan.
On the night of August 15, 2024, the day/night band saw the cloud bands of Ampil illuminated by moonlight and the bright lights of Tokyo to it’s north. (Image 1)
The next day, Ampil can be seen in high-resolution in the visible (band I1) product in a whole storm view as it made it closer to Japan. (Image 2)
From that same time, the area around the eye of Ampil can be clearly seen. (Image 3)
