Grace formed as a tropical storm on August 13th, 2021 in the open Atlantic. Grace traveled into the Caribbean, eventually landfalling in Jamaica as a tropical storm and then in the Yucatan Peninsula as a category 1 hurricane. After weakening over land, Grace pushed into the Bay of Campeche and quickly restrengthened into a hurricane. Grace rapidly intensified into a category 3 storm just prior to landfalling in Veracruz, Mexico on August 21st. This marked the strongest hurricane landfall in Veracruz’s history.
In total, 16 deaths and over $500 million in damage were attributed to Hurricane Grace.
