Typhoon Kong-rey

Kong-rey (also known as Leon in the Philippines) was a strong typhoon that brought significant impacts to Taiwan.

On October 25, 2024, Kong-rey became a named tropical storm by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and it remained a tropical storm until October 28, 2024. Kong-rey then quickly strengthened into very strong typhoon in just over twenty four hours, peaking with one-minute sustained winds of 150 mph (240 km/h).

Kong-rey made landfall on October 31, 2024 in Changgong, Taitung in Taiwan. This made it the first typhoon to make landfall in Taiwan after mid-October. In Haulien, 4.70 in (11.95 cm) of rain fell in one hour.

As Kong-rey passed over Taiwan, its convective system weakened, and as it moved along the eastern coast of China, it interacted with a frontal system, beginning its extra-tropical transition.

On November 1, 2024, the system transitioned to an extratropical low, developing frontal characteristics.
