Henri formed as a small tropical storm in the open Atlantic near Bermuda on August 16th, 2021. The storm slowly strengthened into a hurricane as it moved west, towards the United States. Henri made its eventual landfall as a tropical storm near Westerly, Rhode Island on August 22nd, 2021.
Henri caused extensive flooding across the Northeast United States as 5 to 10 inches of rain fell in northern New Jersey, southern New York, and eastern Pennsylvania. Henri’s winds left nearly 150,000 homes without power.
In total, $700 million in damages were attributed to Hurricane Henri.
