Typhoon Kalmaegi

Kalmaegi (Tino) formed into a tropical storm on November 1, 2025 in the southeastern Philippine Sea. As the storm tracked westward, it also intensified, becoming a typhoon by November 3.

Typhoon Kalmaegi continued to gain strength as it approached the Philippines, becoming a Category 2 strength storm with winds of 105 mph (169 km/h). The storm made landfall in the Providence of Southern Leyte of the Philippines around 16:00 UTC on November 3. After crossing the islands, Kalmaegi entered the South China sea just 12 hours later, a slightly weakened storm. In the wake of the Typhoon, at least 188 people were killed, with 135 missing across the central Philippines, making it the deadliest natural disaster to hit the country this year.

The favorable atmospheric and oceanic conditions of the South China Sea allowed Typhoon Kalmaegi to reorganize. On November 6 at 00:00 UTC, the storm reached its maximum intensity with winds of 130 mph (210 km/h) as it neared Vietnam.

Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall that day over the Vietnamese provinces of Dak Lak and Gia Lai with sustained winds of 92 mph (149 km/h), killing two.
