Hurricane Rafael
Rafael was a major hurricane in the Caribbean Sea.
Rafael formed on November 4, 2024, south of Jamaica in the Caribbean Sea. Rafael brought torrential rains to Jamaica where flash flooding and landslides were reported.
Two days later, Rafael made landfall in the Cuban province of Artemisa with winds of 115 mph (185 km/hr). Rafael’s winds caused widespread damage to homes and agriculture while also triggering an island-wide power grid failure.
After crossing Cuba, Rafael entered the Gulf of Mexico where the system slowly weakened, eventually dissipating on November 10, 2024.
