Early December Winter Storm and Nor’easter
From the weekend after Thanksgiving to the first few days of December, a winter storm and nor’easter swept through the northern US, bringing impacts to the Midwest and East Coast.
Starting the weekend after Thanksgiving during November 29-30, 2025, an intense winter storm battered the Midwest, leading to some locations receiving over a foot of snow. This included places like Iowa, Minnesota, and even Chicago. Due to the timing of the winter storm, it caused major travel disruptions for those heading home after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Kicking off the month of December, another winter storm emerged over the Central US, bringing additional snow to the Midwest. But out east, this system was set up to become a nor’easter that would dump heavy snow, rain, and even ice accumulations throughout the states on the East Coast. Travel conditions deteriorated throughout the northeast US where the the winter weather hit the hardest. As the nor’easter moved east, it also brought substantial impacts to the Canadian maritime provinces.
