Cyclone Chido
Chido was a tropical cyclone in the western Indian Ocean.
Chido intensified and developed a central eye as it travelled westward towards Madagascar and East Africa. It made its first landfall in the islands of Agaléga in Mauritius on December 11, 2024 before passing north of the tip of Madagascar on December 13, 2024.
On December 14, 2024, Chido made direct landfall on the French island territory of Mayotte as the equivalent of a category 4 storm. As of December 16, 2024, 14 people were confirmed dead, but the presumed total could be in the hundreds. It is the worst storm to hit the island in nearly a century.
Chido made its third landfall along the coast of Mozambique the following day on December 15, 2024.
