Ice Covers Over Half of the Surface of the Great Lakes

A bitterly cold airmass over the Great Lakes towards the end of January caused an extensive growth of ice over the Great Lakes, with over half of the surface becoming frozen over. Lake Erie, because of its shallowness, is over 95% covered in ice.
