Tropical Storm Kenneth

Tropical Storm Kenneth was a tropical system in the Eastern Pacific ocean.

Kenneth was the strongest storm to hit Mozambique, and formed on April 17, 2019. Kenneth was designated a tropical disturbance on April 21, and made landfall on April 25.

Kenneth was the most destructive storm on Mozambique’s history, killing 52 people and causing $345 million worth of damage. Wind and intense rainfall posed the most danger to civilians.

45 of the deaths from Kenneth occurred in Mozambique, and the storm also affected the Seychelles, Comoros, Mayotte and Madagascar.

Kenneth’s sustained windspeed upon landfall was 140 mph, and power outages and falling trees were reported to cause extensive damage on the island. Obo Island, off the coast of Mozambique, reported that 90% of all structures were damaged.
