Hurricane Oscar

Oscar was a hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean basin.

After struggling to develop past a tropical disturbance as it traversed the open ocean, Oscar came together as tropical storm, then a hurricane, just north of the Caribbean on October 19th, 2024.

Oscar underwent rapid intensification, going from a tropical disturbance to a category 1 hurricane in under 24 hours.

Oscar made landfall in eastern Cuba the next day, October 20th, 2024, where it brought heavy rains and strong winds, ultimately leading to the deaths of six people. Residents impacted by Oscar were already dealing with a nation-wide blackout due to a power grid failure a couple of days prior.

Oscar pulled away from Cuba and the Bahamas over the next couple of days, eventually losing its status as a tropical storm as it weakened.
