Hurricane Francine

Francine was a hurricane that brought heavy rain, gusty winds, and storm surge to Louisiana.

Francine formed on September 9, 2024 as a tropical storm in the southern Gulf of Mexico. Francine slowly strengthened over the 24 hours, becoming a hurricane late on September 10.

Francine made landfall on September 11, 2024 as a Category 2 hurricane with winds of 100 mph (161 km/hr). The storm made landfall in the Parrish of Terrebonne.

After landfall, Francine quickly weakened, becoming a tropical storm late on September 11.

Francine’s strong winds left nearly 500,000 customers without power in Louisiana while the storm’s heavy rain triggered numerous flash floods in the region.
