Back-to-Back Winter Storms

Soon after a nor’easter ripped through the Northeast US, another strong mid-latitude cyclone was set to rip through much of the Central and Eastern United States.

This system started out bringing numerous showers and storms to the Gulf Coast while also kicking up a lot of dust in West Texas.

While also bringing severe weather to the southeast, the powerful storm system also brought blizzard conditions to the Midwest, and strong winds and flooding to the Northeast US.

Quick on the heels of this system, a second mid-latitude cyclone approached from the west.

This storm setup, the the one just prior, brought severe weather to the southeast and strong winter weather to the Midwest. Temperatures plummeted to dangerously cold levels, and thundersnow was even seen in Chicago.

The frigid weather lasted until the weekend in the central Plains, where it lead to one of the coldest NFL games in history.
