Cyclone Ilsa was a powerful tropical cyclone that made landfall along the northwestern coast of Australia.
Ilsa made landfall Western Australia on April 13, 2023, with wind speeds of around 190 mph, making it one of the strongest storms to hit Australia in nearly 14 years.
Winds were especially strong near Bedout Island, as reported by Western Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology, measuring at 135.5 mph, and breaking the record for 10-minute sustained wind record in Australia. That record was previously held by winds from Cyclone George in 2007.
On Australia’s storm intensity scale, Ilsa was rated a category 5 storm.
