Storm Babet was a system that brought heavy rain to Western Europe.
Babet was an extratropical cyclone that formed on Oct. 20 in waters around Denmark. Storm surge near the region of Gedser in Denmark, the storm surge levels were the highest ever recorded, over 6 feet above normal.
As the storm intensified, flooding and intense winds hit the country. Wind gusts of 122 mph were reported at Nordborg, Denmark on Oct. 20.
One person was killed in Germany, and when the storm made landfall in the United Kingdom, five people died due to flooding and extensive damages, which included extensive rainfall and high winds that forced evacuations on the coast.
Babet poured 26 inches of rain on Scotland, and storm surge and flooded rivers contributed to the extensive damages.
Babet forced airline cancellations and caused extensive flooding across Portugal and Norway as well.
