Typhoon Ampil

Typhoon Ampil was a storm in the western Pacific Ocean, forming on Monday, August 12, 2024. A couple of days later on August 14, 2024, it was upgraded to a typhoon.

Preparations were made in Japan as Ampil rapidly intensified, where its forecasted path was expected to approach.

Typhoon Ampil brushed the eastern portions of Japan on Friday, August 16, 2024, where it provoked evacuations as it brought strong winds and heavy rain, arising the threatening possibility of flooding and landslides.

Ampil moved away from Japan over the weekend, soon after transitioning into an extratropical system.

The remnant low of Ampil then entered the Bering Sea on August 20, 2024, where it brought gusty winds, rain and some high surf to parts of western Alaska.
